I would like to draw people's attention to a recent substantial increase in the grade 6 sport climbing options available on Creigiau Cigfran Creigiau Gigfran in the A 55 area. Until the recent activity there was one outstanding 7c , five hard 6s (6c or 6c+: one excellent, two poor, the others debateable) a 6a and a 6b. Recently, the addition of three routes at 6a, (one possibly only 5c), two at 6a+ and one 6b extension has brought the number of routes available at 6b and below up from two to seven plus an extension. The new additions are all long pitches on good rock and this set of crags now provides a worthwhile day out for people operating in this grade range.

In addition there four routes from 6a+ to 6c+ have recently been added to the Bottom Tier of Penmaen West Quarry, which can be reached from Cigfran by going up a 2-stage incline. These are a bit more adventurous but including them the number of routes available at 6b+ and below in the area rises to 10.

All the recent routes are described with photo topos in the UKC database.

I hope some people will be tempted to go and have a look.
