Apologies for being unoriginal but this never occurred to me until I saw the other post. Very bright 17 year old loves most things Japanese. I think she would find time to actually read it over Christmas. Thanks

I was definitely thinking Persepolis http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/009952399X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1449327105&am... based on the title but for Japanese maybe something related to studio ghibili?

I'm not really into graphic novels as such, but I read The Sandman purely cos I generally like Neil Gaiman

Quite enjoyed it (but can't really compare it to other stuff...cos I've never read any other stuff...)

+1 for the sandman graphic novels. Excellent thought provoking storylines from a master of storytelling.

Promethea by Alan Moore. Female mythological superhero.

Great artwork.

Another vote for the sandman series.

An absolute masterpiece- 'world's end' is dizzying in the layers of storytelling. But it's one long story through the whole series so something of an investment!
