Castle Rock - Thirlmere. Update on rock movement, Jan 2016

Measurements taken on Sunday Jan 24 2016 confirm that movement is continuous. The interior of the crack is fairly dry and frost action hasn’t been an issue and root-jacking does not seem significant either. A rope was dropped down the cleft the rope and the knots went straight down the crack without hesitation - that's a first. Given the flooding in road erosion in the Thirlmere area and this ongoing rock movement there are some interesting geological processes in the Thirlmere area!

This better be suitably dramatic when it goes - its been taunting us for years now!

Maybe when it does go, the rock can be used to repair the A591? Looks like the time scale for both might be similar (i.e unknown!).

In reply to djwilse: I would think the problem is not so much repairing the A591, more repairing it so that it can withstand a similar bout of weather without significant damage.
