Hi All,

First post from me, I am planning a 4 day trip to the lakes for Easter. We were thinking of wild camping and just wondered how cold it would be and if it was ok to camp at that time of the year.

Thanks

Justin

Hi Justin. It could be pleasant but then it could be freezing! It's not uncommon to have snow at that time of year but you should be fine with a 3 season sleeping bag (around 0c to -5c).

A couple of years ago when wild camping in the Cairngorms, it was high 20s in the day but went below freezing over night.

April (and even may) is a very hard time of year to predict as it can be anything from feeling like summer in the day with possible ground frosts, to being proper full on winter conditions or the typical mild wet windy westerly weather.

March is winter really for the mountain areas of the UK.

In Scotland I've learnt the hard way that June and even early July can be pretty cold at night!
