I am looking to get new more robust tyres for my road bike which i shall be using for a bit of touring. . I have been looking at gator skins but have the chance of a good deal on Continental Super Sport Plus 25-622 folding tyre. Does anyone know these tyres.

They are not really a good option for touring, more of a city tyre, go with the Gatorskin, you wont go far wrong with them.

cheers, thanks for that

I've used Gatorskins a fair bit, good durability but not such good grip, I've been using Michelin Pro 4 Endurance in 25mm most of this winter without a single puncture. This could be down to luck I know but I've found them to have much better grip than Gator skins without any downsides.

thanks - i went on to wiggle and asked their advice. They suggested the Grand Prix 4 season as a better alternative. They seem to have a lot of good reviews although I shall look at the Michelin one now too. It's all a minefield.
One more question - I am not very technical.
If I have 25 tyres but the new tyres I am buying are known to be quite tight, can I put a 28 tyre on the same wheel or should I stick to 25s?

They will fit on the metal wheel rims (perhaps some effort required if known for being a tight fit) but you need to see how much room there is on your frame and fork to take a larger tire. What bike do you have?

Look at the gaps between your frame at the back and the rear tire. Is there room for another 3mm of tire? Same at the top of the fork at the front?

A larger tire should give you more comfort as you can inflate to a lower pressure. You won't notice the minor decrease in speed I'm sure. I run 32c tires on my bike and it zips along nicely.

Thanks for this. I do not have my bike here at the moment to check it. It is a Specialised Dulce Sport.
In reply to thedatastream:

I think it'll be very tight to get much more than a 25mm tyre on the Dolce but without looking who knows. It'll be down to the gap between your brake and tyre. I run 25mm tyres with Ultegra brakes and wouldn't get anything fatter to fit.

I would also recommend the 4 seasons. Excellent tyres, I use them most of the time.

I've tried both Four Seasons and Gatorskins where I live, Hants, and neither handle the flint nearly as well as Durano Plus. That said, on roads without flints or thorns there might not be such a difference.
In reply to Lorraine McCall:

Thanks for all the info. I have gone for the four seasons size 25. The plan is to do some cycling in the hebrides, skye and mull this spring and the roads there are not in such good condition, so hopefully this will do the job.
