Moderators - please don't move this to Rocktalk - see below.

In response to a discussion on Rocktalk - http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?n=641304 - please only answer this if you're NOT a rock climber.

What do you (as a non-climber) think is the most famous climb in the UK?

Mt. Snowdon. Glorious climb, do-able on a 70m single and 15 quickdraws, protection is sparse but the climbing is easy. You should get on it when you get the chance.

The rope (this is what many non-climbers think we climb).
In reply to Michael Hood:

the stairs.

If you're talking about mountain climb. It'll be one of the big three but I'm guessing Snowdon would be the most everyone would immediately think of.

Rock Climbing, I'd suspect Old Man of Stour would be fairly widely heard of.

It's going quite well. Only one dislike on the whole thread so far, and we have idea what for, so all is good.

Your post isn't very clear. What exactly do you mean by a climb? Most posters have suggested Snowdon.

What exactly are you expecting to use this 'useful' information for?

Surely it's Mt Snowdon?

Call it what you want. Not sure what the aim of the thread is.

Two dislikes now. I'm quite disappointed.

It's posted in the 'HILLTALK' forum, so I assume he's asking hill walkers as opposed to climbers, what they think is the most famous climb that climbers would consider a climb. So Mount Snowdon, etc. is not included.

Surely you don't expect the OP to explain the aim of the thread? It's obvious!

In reply to Michael Hood:

At the risk of replying seriously to the OP, maybe something like Cenotaph Corner - I'd certainly heard of it before I started climbing. There are maybe national/regional variations though: up here it might be Tower Ridge or Zero Gully.

Before i started climbing, i knew about old man of hoy and 3 peaks challenge.
Nuff said.

That's very confusing.

He's asking what I think the most famous one is. The two most famous Old Man of Hoy and Stour are, but he doesn't like that answer. So I'm not sure exactly what he is after.

You think he's asking what is the most famous rock climb that hill walkers would have heard of. As opposed to the most famous rock climb that the general public would have heard of. Which wouldn't be 'climb' because hills are climbed as well. Not very specific.

Do you mean the Old Man of Stoer in Sutherland ? There`s also the Old Man of Storr on Skye ? The Stour however is in East Anglia.

Being a pedant I shall of course reply pedantically.
Firstly you incorrectly spelt the word 'is' in your reply. 'Seeing as you're a pedant, I might correct you as Everest in not in the UK.'
Secondly I wrote 'Given many peoples geographic knowledge it would be Everest' I did not imply that I myself thought that it would be but thank you for confirming my belief that Everest isn't in the UK . Obviously the answer should then be Mont Snowdin or Ben Nervis
Im off now to correct the rest of the internet.
