OK; it was a bit derivative of the Joan Littlewood 'Oh, What A Lovely War' in the music hall sequences but that is pretty adventurous for TV!
I agree with the 'gentleness' comments but found the sequence when the Sherwoods attacked a group of already dead German soldiers quite disturbing.
