I have Just purchased a second hand altimeter, I have never had one before so I am completely new to how they work, but I noticed that it becomes inaccurate after a day or so, is the done thing to check your map and set your altitude manually at the start of the day ?
I'm guessing you have an aneroid altimeter, which works on air pressure. Set it at the start of each day, when you are at a known altitude. As the air pressure can vary as fronts come through, it is advisable to check and reset it when you reach a subsequent point of known height.
