I am thinking about climbing at St. Bees Head on Sunday, however it is forecast to rain every day until Saturday . I have heard that sandstone isn't climbable if it is wet and the rock can break. Does anybody have any local expertise regarding the area? Would it be a good idea to try and climb there Sunday?

In reply to tyho:

Some of the boulders and shorter routes can dry out very quickly with a breeze, but many of the bigger routes are very seepy and in places slimy at the moment. Unless there is an unexpected (and unforecast!) improvement in the weather you won't get the really pleasant experience the place can offer when the sun is out and the cracks are dry. The platforms at the base are also very wet and greasy in places at the moment. Depends how far you are coming; it could be good, but personally I probably won't be driving the 15 minutes from home to find out. Have fun, whatever you end up doing, John.
