Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experiences of what training did and didn't work for them with regards to training for high altitude. Did you find HIIT effective? Or found it better to do longer and lower intensity workouts?

Many thanks

I personally haven't any experience in this but my ex climbing partner used to swear by endurance. He used to do a lot of mountaineering in Peru so not super high altitude but it was still pretty high. His main training included running lots of cycling as well as climbing and drinking lots of beer.

Obviously you need to maintain your level of fitness, but altitude is funny. Sometimes you ar just fine with it, other times it's shit. There is no way of anticipating how your body will react, and it can vary from trip t trip. Sometimes it's the fittest who get worst affected, sometimes not.

A good long walk in with ever increasing altitude seems a good way to acclimatise, but pace yourself and don't rush things. If time allows, having gained altitude, drop down again to a lower altitude to sleep, before going back up again.

Hi, couple of questions.

What have you done previously (height gained, objective, conditions, duration etc) and second question is what/where is your next objective. Gives us something to go on regarding training etc.

Don't know if you've seen it but there is some kind of hypoxic (sp) tent system for sale on this site. No idea about its application or benefit however.
