Looking at picking one of these up, few freinds have the older version "Karrimor Avalanche" which was pretty good for it's price.

Does anyone have one of these new glacier jackets, and if so might be willing to give some thoughts on it?

As per another thread, Karrimor the quality equipment maker went bust in 2004. It might be an ok jacket for the price, but don't expect too much from it.

Their rucsacks are excellent and well designed. Much, much cheaper than trendy brands such as KESTREL.

this seems to be a popular topic.

if you are working to a budget do so, we all have a budget right but as i have always said and so the facts show, with outdoor gear (and across most things in life) you get what you pay for ... simple as. as long as you dont expect a cheap jacket to technically perform like an "expensive" jacket, set your expectations accordingly and tailor your choice of gear to the following:

1 - budget - is it the best you can buy for what you want to spend
2 - what you want from the jacket (specifically: breathability, weight, packability, durability, features, fit, quality/construction, membrane - GTX, technical performance, etc ...)
3 - use - is the jacket appropriate to what you want to use it for and want the jacket to do for you
4 - expectations - the price will always reflect the overall quality of the jacket trust me

hope this helps,

i think they are extremely heavy in comparison to a lot of their "competitors" and lack features, durability and the back panel ventilation systems are useless at best ... get your hands on an Osprey Talon you wont regret it.
