My brother is coming up to Scotland from Bath next weekend and we've got a vague arrangement to go up Schiehallion. He's keen to play with his new crampons, but I don't think there's much snow around - has anyone been up recently?

There probably is some, albeit rather patchy and soggy at the moment. A little fresh snow is possible later in the week.

In the Cairngorms this weekend, the freezing level was continually above the summits, and any lying snow was completely unconsolidated: just walking around was a post-holing effort. So, unless the temperature takes a dive: skis yes; crampons, no.
