I am planning to buy a waterproof all in one suit for my goddaughter's 2nd birthday. The family spend a lot of time outdoors, so wanting to get a hard wearing one - which is the toughest? Togz, spotty otter and muddy puddles all look pretty tough, but big price difference! I'm willing to pay more if.the quality is much better, but if they are much of a muchness then no point in paying over the odds. There's another child on the way, so it would be preferable if it could survive for that one too.

Cioch clothing make paramo clothing for kids. That would probably last a while.

When ours were younger we tried to get trouser or suits made with corduro. Much harder wearing then the rubber/plastic or gortexy fabrics. A little heavier though. All our stuff went from one to the next too.

You need to look for the Nordic brands as I've only really seen it used on caving oversuits in the UK.

A bit of hunting and you might find some stuff in the UK. Sweden's 2nd hand market is awash with stuff as all kids have at least 2 sets for summer, 2 for winter (one for keeping at school, no such thing as bad weather at break time).

We bought our little one a 'Hippychick' fleece lined all in one after recommendations from friends. It's been well used on the hills, parks and playgrounds of the UK, keeping her warm and dry with no complaints for the past 18 months. Sadly now outgrown but plenty of life left in it.

I find Keela stuff well made and a good price. I have never had their toddler stuff though my kids have work their clothing from about the age of 6 upwards.

Spotty Otter worked well for our youngest lad (skiing etc) - sad day when he grew out of it. Has been handed on to two subsequent kids... still going strong.

More waterproof than the Baby Buffalo (and less 'sack of spuds' chic).

Whilst paramo is excellent for mountainwear, I would think that most cheaper brands would be more bombproof (and cheaper for when the toddler proves they can destroy things better than the proverbial bomb)

We bought the following for our first and they have both survived for the second! We managed to get them in the sale at our local outdoor store (Lockwoods, but they don't seem to sell the lamb suit anymore, hence alterantive link):

Advantage of having separate waterproof and warm layers we can mix and match depending on weather conditions and temperature.

Another feature we wanted was flaps to cover hands.....good for keeping hands warm when they refuse to wear/lose their gloves and then proceed to complain about cold hands!

Our two both had second hand Muddy Puddles all in one waterproof suits, which lasted well and did the job. Not sure if they are any cheaper than Spotty Otter but we had happy, warm and dryish toddlers.

Daughter #1 has mainly been in Regatta stuff, I think, which has laster her well enough - some of that was 2nd hand and is still good enough to hand down to daughter #2. Also some JoJo Maman kit, which is pretty well made.

Doesn't get as much use as I'd like it to, though, so can't really comment on long term with heavy use.

We put ours into Sprayway Newt suits and never had a complaint from them. I can't see them listed on the Sprayway website, so perhaps end of line, and most places seem to be discounting them e.g.

Spotty Otter all in one has served us really well.
Purchases too large for our eldest daughter we used it with the sleeves and legs rolled up. She has since out grown it and it our youngest is now using it.
In total it has had 4.5yrs use and just gets periodically thrown in the washing machine.
Both girls attended forest school nurseries and spent a lot of time outside in all weather.
Not cheap but we managed to persuade grandparents to pay for this rather than another pile of pink plastic tat.
Recommended.

I bought a Spotty Otter for my niece at 6 months. I bought the 1-2 years one and she wore it with the arms and legs rolled up for a while. She is quite small so it lasted until she was around 30 months. Her younger brother wears it now and it is still going strong. Not cheap, but well worth the cost. They have both used a separate fleece onesie with it.

The older girl is 3 now. She has expressed a dislike for onesies (they aren't "big girl" enough for her) but she has a pair of waterproof salopettes that she loves and that seem pretty robust. I can't remember the brand though.
