Someone told me you needs ropes, harness, gear etc to access St Bees bouldering. Is this true or total nonsense?

It's been a while since i've been, but certainly didn't need ropes or gear to access back then (a couple of years ago I think)

To get down to the beach - total nonsense
To stand up without falling over on the rock if the seaweed is wet, true, and add crampons to the list.

Though I have only been twice so cant really comment.

Total nonsense, it's a path with some fixed ropes.

If you watch the start of this short film by Sam Horton you can see a bit of the descent.
The steep bits have hand lines to help.

No gear needed, but if your taking a dog/ baby there is an easier descent further along, although this means boulder hopping along to reach the boulders.
