Interesting results from the qualifiers.

Shauna qualified first in her group, so joint first place going into the semis with Janja Garnbret. She was the only person to get 5 tops in her group. Second in that group, Petra K, only got 3. Pretty impressive comeback after her injury!

Michaela qualified a very respectable fourth in her group so joint 7th overall. This is ahead of many top comp climbers like Megan Mascarenas, Akiyo Noguchi, Sol Sa, Margo Hayes, and Anna Stöhr (Margo and Anna didn't qualify). Leah just missed out coming joint 21st. None of the British men made it through, Nathan Philips did best with 33rd place.

Tomoa didn't qualify but his younger brother? Meichi, made it through in ninth. Interesting to see him competing tomorrow. Kokoro Fuji leads jointly with Sergii Topishko.

No. I'm sure the setters intend to make both sets of problems similarly difficult, but it's not an exact science and it's quite common the one group is clearly harder.

Therefore they rank for the semis based on relative positions in the groups not on absolute scores.

Agreed.

Sometimes there are some identical problems but of course this necessitates identical sections of wall. Most walls vary throughout their length so it's simply not possible to have two sets of every problem.
