Post by Jacko3522 got me thinking about our many islands and the highest points, but Google doesnt seem to have a classified list on this subject apart from a worldwide one.
Does anyone know of such a document, either UK rankings, GB rankings or British Isles?

I think Rob Woodall is doing something with islands or bits of rock that stick up out of the sea! Here's a list of actual islands he seems to have completed, but not sure how high and what constitutes an actual island.

You've got to love an island hill. I can't think of a single one I've been on where the view hasn't been stunning, whether it was 10m or 900m.

Possibly my favourite isn't an offshore island, but the summit of Eilean Mor on Loch Sionasgaig. The views of the remarkable summits of Assynt, all around you, are awe inspiring.

(CHeat, this isn't actually the highest point, but hopefully you get the idea!)

Beinn an Oir on Jura takes some beating for views.

Exactly what I wanted. Shame it stops at 150 m, though

Hi Tom

Myrddyn Phillips might be able to shed some light - I'll forward this question to him.

Coincidentally, we've just published an article by him today on the Welsh P30s, peaks with a 30m prominence (there's a lot of them):

https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/page.php?id=9436

That list includes a lot of island summits. A full UK P30 list is likely to include pretty much every island high point, bar a few in the southeast maybe.

Simon Edwardes' Hill Bagging website has published the list of Sibs (Significant Island of Britain), when coupled with the Siblets it lists approximately 1100 islands, with the list having been compiled by Alan Holmes http://www.hill-bagging.co.uk/SIBs.php

There's also an Island Bagging Facebook page for enthusiasts. Hope this helps.

If you're thinking of Ireland we've just put a very extensive lists of Irish islands online at http://mountainviews.ie in consultation with David Walsh, author of 'Oileáin'. Everything from stuff you can walk out to to...slightly more challenging things...

It's not totally exhaustive but we will continue to add to it.

Hamlish Haswell-Smiths book covering 'The Scottish islands', has the high point of each noted.

All the Scottish Islands have been sea kayaked to by one individual, but probably not the high points 'bagged'.

You can also download the Database of British and Irish Hills as a spreadsheet from http://www.hills-database.co.uk/ and select everything with a col height of zero. I think this contains all P30 islands plus a few lower ones.

Rob is a member of our club, Peterborough Mountaineering Club(PMC) and frequently downloads images from his most recent trips to points on the mainland and islands and stacks etc on our facebook page. He is off this weekend in the north of Scotland near Seanna Braigh and other places.

Absolutely brilliant!
Though someone seems to think otherwise.
