Anyone know what the rules are on staying in your van in the Swiss alps.

Going to be heading out to the alps and would like to head up to zermatt, anywhere we can wild camp down in tasch?

Is this feasible or do I need to pay for a campsite.

It's so busy around there you will probably be moved on by the local plod. Better off staying at the campsite between Randa and Tasch and getting the bus to Zermatt. Take plenty of spending money!

I thought this might well be the case. Was worth asking the greater knowledge of ukc

Being Switzerland, there may well be a substantial fine involved too.

Last time I was in Zermatt(1990 something), we camped on the top of the railway tunnel, which is nice and grassy and not easily visible from below.

I just stayed three nights at the parking area for Medji, St Nicklaus, a bit further down the valley from Randa.
A good quiet spot with no problems.
You can take the train up to Zermatt from St Nick.
Medji is a great crag to check out.
