Hi folks!

We've got the standard issues with being unable to mount a fingerboard in a rented house. Instead, we're wondering about trying to rest a bit of wood across the loft hatch and hang a pair of rock rings from it.

Has anyone else tried this? Any thoughts? We've got a bunch of old pallets that we can use for wood, possibly with a few slats nailed together to form a beam - the questions are a) will pallet slats be strong enough and b) will the rim of the loft hatch be strong enough.

Thanks!

Yes, done this. Random piece of wood, 15cm x 5cm or so. Works just fine.edge if loft hatch meant for standing on. Sorted.

As I needed a better set up I built a free standing fingerboard frame in a doorway. This also works fine. No walls were harmed in the making of the equipment. Made from mostly random pieces of wood lying about. Pm me if you want some pics.

Personally I would just stick the fingerboard up where ever you want it and fill the holes in before you move out. Polyfilla is cheap and it will only take 5 minutes to do. And filling in cracks and holes is a standard part of redecorating anyway.

One of these might do the trick... just clamps onto the frame no need for screwing or fixing...

Works great. I used 2 x 4 for the frame and then attached a beastmaker and looped some rings over the top beams.

Also added a few campus rungs on the other side from the fingerboard.

Excellent setup. Thankfully our landlord is a little more enthusiastic when it comes to mounting things like fingerboards. Loving the home campus setup though! Looks like you've got range for 1-5 at least - not bad for a loft hatch!
