There are occasions when a belay point may have to be shared. If a sling is already around a stake would it be better to go over or under it?
Assuming that the sling can be removed easily in either case.

Generally you go under (stake, bolt doesn't matter) as the one being there first often leaves before ya do... So makes sense for them to be "on top".

If you put your sling underneath the other sling, then up through it, and then over the stake both parties can remove their slings as and when. Further parties can do the same until the stake is full. This is a trick used when mooring boats when you or others may leave in the night to catch the tide.

For stakes, it works... but not on chains or bolts.

I guess if each team just larks-tailed their slings they'd also be able to remove them as and when? (Assuming that the next sling above wasn't exerting downward pressure on it)
