Hi all,

Merry Christmas and all that jazz.

Just wondered, I have found an old book token and wanted to put it towards a decent mountaineering book. I have two questions:

1) Anyone know if there are any specialist mountaineering bookshops/gear shops that accept national book tokens?

2) any recommendations? (Have read the Joe Simpson catalogue, White Spider and one of the Andy Cave ones)

Cheers!

Art of Freedom about Voytek Kurtyka I just got for Christmas and is why I am a bit tired at work today. Might be my new #1

Love Perrin's biography of Menlove although 2nd half maybe drags a bit. Most people will say The Bond which is also excellent

I can't answer that and of course it's great that you (I assume) would like to support such shops, but IF none seem to accept them, you could just order the desired book into a Waterstones or other store that accepts your token, and use the token in there.

Fred Holdsworths' in Ambleside generally have a good mountaineering section and accept book tokens IIRC.

I have been given a National Book Token this Christmas and TBH there's not many places outside the mainstream Smiths etc that take them.

That said Waterstones will order in BMC guides and most other books either over the phone or in person in the shop. Very helpful customer service lady told me all that yesterday so thats where mine is going.

Cheers everyone. Will have a dig around when I’m in Ambleside!
