How hard is it to get to Old Man of Hoy via public transport?

A bike is quite handy for the bit on Hoy although I believe you can get a taxi.

On Hoy itself, easy enough. We just used a taxi. Ferry from Scrabster to Stromness.

Not sure about getting to Scrabster though. We drove to Scrabster and left car there.

Google says train to Thurso then 10 mins on the 78 bus to Scrabster.

Or fly to Kirkwall, bus through to Stromness, boat to Moaness then either taxi or walk.

As a few others has said you can book a taxi to pick up from the ferry on hoy. Very easy to get to stromness without a car and from memory easy to leave car at scrabster though parking in the town and bus will match ferry times.
