Hi all, Im a first time buyer after some half ropes, Ive been climbing with a few partners who have 8.3mm Mammut half ropes.

I'm looking at getting my own set for a few trips abroad this year, anyone recommend any makes/models or any information I should look at when buying them?

Many thanks!

Check out one of the online guides, such as this

and have a think about exactly what you want to do with them. Abroad is a big place.

Outside of winter I only ever buy 50s, and I don't bother with dry treaded.

With that in mind I've just bought a pair of Fixe Fanatics, 8.4mm. Happy so far, though they've only done one route (Cream - a great christening!) so can't comment on their durability but they handle well.

My last pair of halves, Mammutt Phoenix 8.0mm were ace and wore pretty well considering their diameter, but maybe a bit thin for some people.

Both those pairs are an absolute bargain in my opinion.

In reply to Reader_Rambles:

I wouldn’t get thinner than 8.5 or longer than 50 for summer climbing.

v12 had a good deal DMM Phophets which are very durable in my experience.

Beal Cobra 2 is another good choice.
