Will a 70m rope do for the majority of climbs in the Gorge du Tarn or would longer be recommended?

thanks

Will

You'll be fine. The local guidebook gives the lengths of climbs so you can choose accordingly (make sure to tie a knot for routes between 30 and 35m though!). You can get by entire sectors with a 70 (Pas de soucy, La Muse, Piédestal, Foetus, Trésor du zèbre...).

The guidebook recommends a minimum 80m rope, and there are a few routes way beyond that. But that said, we just got around with 60m. But that left about half the climbs beyond our reach (less in practice, as we did not even attempt walls where there were longer ones interspersed). If you want to play safe, only try walls that can be done with your rope length throughout, and don't forget middle mark and stopper knot...
