Hi, does anyone know of any reasonably up to date alternatives to the Rockfax guide to Mallorca ? we already have a Rockfax per climbing pair but I always find it useful having a second independent source of information on areas and routes - either as alternatives or as a cross check on the Rockfax description.  Not worried about language - grades and topos are pretty international !

A quick Google suggests that the most up to date alternative is a 2009 local guide.

thanks

Which Mallorca guide have you got?

This one from 2016 - https://www.rockfax.com/climbing-guides/books/spain-mallorca/

Or this one from 2011 - https://www.rockfax.com/climbing-guides/old-books/mallorca-2011/

If the latter then I would say that the new one is worth getting in this case - 8 new crags plus lots more DWS info. Article about the new stuff here - https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/destinations/mallorca_-_8_new_crags_to_...

As far as I am aware there is no local guidebook more recent than the Miguel Riera 2008/2009 one. A reasonable guide but unfortunately the topo lines were added by the designer and not the people who climbed the routes so they are not very accurate.

In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:

Hi Alan, thanks.  The people I'm likely to be partnering with on this trip have the new 2016 Rockfax guide already, so I was looking to see whether there was anything to complement them with, rather than have two identical guides per team.

Just for a laugh, I unearthed my 2001 copy of Costa Blanca, Mallorca and El Chorro the other day - have to say I still like those old hand drawn topos

I might have a thumb through the 2009 guide if I see it out there.

If you do see it, read the intro on page 8. Never seen anything like that in a. guidebook before.
