Stuck inside? I've been thinking this is a good opportunity to catch up on climbing films so have put together a ticklist. Anyone got any other recommendations? My personal preferences are more for the ones that have a historical, environmental or cultural perspective and are not so much adverts or fiction (was tempted not to include Valley Uprising for that reason but maybe it has its place now?). More interviews would be interesting if there are some good ones I've missed? Anyway here's my list. I've tried to include ligit links.

In reply to The Pylon King:

That was the first climbing film I ever saw! The footage of a distant Pete Whillance leading E3 in a raincloud while wearing a school jumper was quite something.

Very atmospheric shots of climbing on the Napes too as I recall.

They don't make films like that any more!

In reply to TXG:

Yeah, I saw it yonks ago when I was just getting into mountaineering and somebody lent me a VHS of it. Really loved it and havent seen it since.

A classic of its kind. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I have it on DVD somewhere. Both inspiring and cringeworthy in equal measure.

I've recently been watching 'TV mountain' videos on You tube (do a search) there are loads mainly alpine climbs. What I like about them is that there is no music or voice over. Just the odd interactions between the climbers (in French) and the sounds of climbing. The only thing that doesn't seem just right, is that the weather and conditions are nearly always perfect. One of my favourites is the Eiger North Face it comes in two parts.

Hahaha yes, as all good climbing films should be. Even Hard Grit is fairly cringey!

The worst ones are definitely the ones trying to be cool.

A not so classic by P. Berhault

(suggests some reason for all these efforts)
