Football in a dangerous place at the moment. So Derby we’re very naughty, broke FFP rules, were caught and have been sanctioned by the EFL. Prospective new owners now can’t complete the takeover until issues with Middlesbrough and Wycombe have been resolved.

Middlesbrough want Derby to pay for their ‘losses’ as they missed out on the play offs by a point and Derby just pipped them to the wembley final. Wycombe want Derby to pay for their ‘losses’ as they got relegated but Derby survived by a single point. The perceived losses in both cases being ‘what if’ losses, that is, hypothetical losses and not losses in a real sense.
A dangerous precedent could be set here, it could lead to all sorts of claims in the future. Imagine a ref failing to give a penalty in a key match, TV playback shows the ref was wrong (no VAR in EFL) so the affected club sue the Ref/EFL for their ‘losses’. Reading have had poinds deducted this season too, if they survive the season, will the teams that are relegated then sue Reading for their ‘losses’?

It seems the EFL need to grow a pair and say that once they apply sanctions, that is the end of the matter, further, individual claims would have no grounding. The matter was even debated in parliament yesterday for 40 minutes it’s so big.
Yes I’m a Derby fan so there is vested interest here but, this could be your team next season.

Wind Derby up. Wait five minutes then start again as Derby Town. Or City.

My boss is a Derby supporter (and season ticket holder).

He's said that the worst possible situation is if Derby are forced to be wound up. In that event the EFL would have to sort out what to do with regards to all the remaining fixtures, and removing their results from those already played.

There's also the situation where if a player has been booked/sent off during a match which is now cancelled as having effectively not taken place, what happens to any fines/suspensions that are and (worse still) have occurred for something subsequently classified as never having happened.

Then again, if Middlesborough and Wycombe are "responsible" for the winding up of Derby, would the clubs who haven't had the income from the matches still to be played sue those 2 clubs for said income - after all, it would be their fault, and Derby would no longer exist to sue.

It’s an appalling situation, Derby are not without blame and have never claimed to be but the EFL has a lot to answer for.
Its a kick in the teeth when the big 6 entered  discussions about forming a european super league and none of them where given any sanctions at all 🤔

Hereford did it. Started at the 9th level. I went to one game where you parked by the touchline
