Birdsong app

Can anyone recommend an app for iphone that would help me recognise birdsong. I don't want one that uses recording as a lot of places I go are quite noisy. I want to quickly select a bird and hear its song to check my ID. Thanks

Xeno-Canto is an excellent resource for bird call/song. Check whether they do an app?

I use this app

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/birds-of-northern-europe/id377591383

which has a page with common calls / songs for each species.

Also, I just came back from an excursion where back at the parking lot I showed someone how the BirdNet app works, readily identifying a nuthatch over the background traffic.

+1 for xeno-canto, but you need a cell signal to use it in the field.

Have a look at BirdNet -

https://birdnet.cornell.edu/

It is free for both Android and iPhone.

You can record bird song you hear, submit it and it will suggest likely birds. I have only used it on common birds but it has correctly identified robin, great tit, wren, goldfinch, chiffchaff, blue tit, blackbird.
