Hi folks,

I live in Italy (so Italian Resident) & have an Italian driving licence (converted from UK one). I'm coming to the UK for 10 days this Thursday. Am looking into getting 10-days' worth of insurance to drive my mate's camper van. Anybody got experience of doing something similar?

Thanks in advance.

Easiest and probably cheapest to get them to phone or login online to their insurer a day or two before you arrive and add you to their policy as a temp driver.

Alternatively, I've used an app called Cuvva to take out short policies before, for that you need access to the vehicle to take pictures of it.

You might find the cheapest way is to just take out an annual policy.

Then, after 10 days cancel your policy.

You should (unless things have changed) get a 2 week cooling off period in which you can cancel, no questions asked.

They would charge you for the time you had th policy, plus probably an admin fee.

Montyjohn and DamonRoberts thanks for your suggestions. Very useful.

Careful. Most policies in my experience require you to be a UK resident. Read the small print.

I just contacted my insurance company to add my daughter to my camper van policy for either one or two weeks with no problem
