As Part of our Aousta trip next week - we are going to be doing Breithorn starting from Breuil Cervina.

Ski lifts are not working.
Using public transport, the earliest we can get to Breuil Cervina is 7am… last train/bus back to Aosta is 20:30pm.

We therefore have about 12 hours to get up and down - which fits in almost exactly with sunrise and sunset.

Outdooractive map is showing It’s a 7 and half hour treck up - but I’m not sure how accurate these times are.

Dies anyone have any experience doing this route?

Any more accurate ideas about times - or anything in general.

Do lots of people climb this route out of season? Or are we going to be the only people there?

Thank you.

I doubt many people walk that particular route because the ski paraphanelia makes it a bit tatty. However, 2200m at 400m/hr is 5.5hrs plus some distance makes 7.5hrs feel about right.

Have you considered coming from St Jacques in Champoluc instead, perhaps with a night at the Mezzalama hut?

Thanks

ive just looked at the route from Champoluc and it looks a bit more adventurous than we’d like (the route that comes up to 2500m looks like quite steep rocky terrain )

You know you can get a 4wd taxi from St Jacques up to 2340m? From there it's a comfortable walk to the Mezzalama and on to the Val d'Ayas Hut at 3240m.

The huts are closed too.

How much do taxis cost around Aosta?

In reply to FockeWulf:

You can stay in the winter rooms - they have bunks, mattresses, blankets. You just need a stove.

Sorry, can't help with other taxis.

There's a neat bivouac hut on a buttress 300m below Roccia Nera at the SE end of the Breithorn
