Just read that Russia fired close to an unarmed RAF aircraft at the end of September. An accident?

Rather an extreme way to get your children off their devices at the dinner table!

Cheers

Your thread title is a bit of an overstatement - 'fires on' means targeted and fired at an RAF aircraft. All that is reported is that a missile was released in the general area - we don't know if the rocket motor fired, if the missile was powered up or even if it was an anti-aircraft missile. For all we know it could have fallen off because the pylon had rusted through.

2 cables in a week sounds a bit fishy

It would appear to be a screw-up. I received this from BT's inter-operator notification service at 10:32 this morning:-

"The root cause of failure has been confirmed and is due to a sub-sea cable planned works carried out by a third-party provider. "  A subsequent update says they're looking to see if some undamaged fibres are useable.

Update from BT - they now say it was '3rd party damage' not '3rd party planned works'. so it could be a fishing boat or 'something else'.
