Hi,

I have been struggling with a numb pain in my shoulder during and after climbing and want to know if anyone has had this issue and found a way to deal with it. I’ve been to the physio, rested and done strength stuff but it keeps coming back, usually it’s fine if I stick to sport climbing but gets much worse though bouldering. I also have a sharp pain in my upper back that’s has gotten more intense recently. Both are on my left side and I just want to know if anyone’s had this problemand what worked for them (any specific treatment/exercises)? I’m taking a break from climbing for a bit to hopefully reduce the strain but don’t want to give up forever, want to climb hard routes again!

Thanks

I know I speak for most people on UKC when i recommend some exploratory self-surgery. You'll need soap, hot towels, a carefully positioned couple of mirrors and a Stanley knife (sterilised). Ice cubes help to numb the areas of interest...

Plan B: Go to your doctor and get a referral to a sport specialist. Seriously,  this could be a range of issues and you need to get it sorted - earlier the better.

It think it is safer to solicit advice on UKC on the back of a formal diagnosis rather than symptoms.
