There's far more to southern Snowdonia than Cader Idris. Take the Arans, for example, a dramatic ridge with a summit higher than its better-known neighbour, but a fraction of the fame and footfall. This is a fine traverse of the Aran ridge from the east, taking in the main summit of Aran Fawddwy as well as Aran Benllyn and Erw y Ddafad-ddu. On this walk you'll get the best views of Creiglyn Dyfi, the source of the Afon Dyfi, and the wild eastern crags of a quietly spectacular mountain range.

14.90 km, 892m ascent, 6 – 7 hours

Gist Ddu is definitely worth checking out if you're into adventurous trad - it's an awesome crag that needs more traffic. The same goes for Doom and Acheron in Cwm Cywarch.

Oi don't give it away - I like my hills quiet

On a serious note - excellent route choice from the Llanymawddy side, better than from Cwm Cywarch for views of the ridge.  A short diversion to Waun Goch is worthwhile for the views down to Hengwm.
