In reply to Wendy Watthews:
I'm not local to Avon Gorge now, but I lived there for three years in the 70's. 1976 was the "year of the heatwave", and pre-chalk. Two of us (both teachers) used to meet below the main wall at about 7.00pm and have to wait till the rock cooled sufficiently to be climbable. Usually about 8.00pm. Before that, our hands sweated so much on the handholds that feet slipped straight off the same holds one move later. We'd then manage one route and head across the Downs to the pub by twilight. We managed just about all the starred VS's and HVS's in Drummond's guide - a great summer!
Hope you find someone to climb with.
