Boulder Pads on Snowdon Park & Ride

Taking the girlfriend and her younger sister camping to Snowdonia for the bank holiday weekend and have been given a day to go bouldering around the area. I've heard about the nightmare that is  parking in Llanberis pass for a while and I was wondering if the park and ride from Nant Peris and Llanberis allows boulder pads? If not, it'll be an early start or drive around until we find somewhere to park and walk to an area close by, whatever we can do.

I've taken a pad on the bus before, but I could see it causing a wee bit of antagonism on a rammed bank holiday weekend!

What you could do is a drive-by pad drop and then get the bus without it.

You may even struggle to park at the park and ride on a busy weekend, but you can always park somewhere, whether that's in the local overflow field or back in Llanberis and get the bus from there.

Yes, that way you can appreciate all the van-lifers taking up in every layby and parking spot in the Pass, while the sun rises....

The antagonism was my other concern, I can't imagine it'll be much busier than this coming weekend!

The drive-by drop sounds like a good shout, definitely an option. I'm sure I'll be able to get parked somewhere!

just do it. your respect for the park environment is creditable and your rights to the luggage space is the same as anyone elses.

I appreciate that but I imagine most people will be taking up much less space than I would with a pad and on a busy day like it will be, there's no sense to be taking up more space than necessary if I can drop off en-route as mentioned above.

roll on the invention of inflateable bouldering mats. maybe I'll give it a try with my paddleboard. There might be a problem with bounce tho.

edit - actually they have already been invented

A couple of fields have opened up for parking near Nant Peris and you can camp in Nant Peris as well (the Vaynol Arms is handy) . It's not so far to walk from there to anything from Nant Peris boulders to the Cromlech. If all else fails RAC boulders (near Plas y Brenin) had plenty of parking last weekend in good weather, despite it being very busy in the pass.

That's useful to know, thank you. Luckily we already have a pitch booked for the weekend but the campsite appears to be an hour and a half walk away. RAC boulders is currently the backup option and potentially the better option due to the experience of my partner and her sister.

I'd never been to RAC before last weekend but I thought it's a brilliant place for beginners and kids, as well as having plenty of problems across the range to the low 7s and a few harder lines. Plus it's a very short walk-in (even if the smaller main parking is full... as there is a bigger parking bay just further up the road on the other side).

RAC is always a good shout. Something for everyone there.

We need the busses to have a pad/bike rack on the front. The San Francisco busses have these and they are super useful.

It seems like that is where we're heading now (weather permitting), so that is good to hear.
