Good afternoon everyone, can I ask for some advice and recommendations please? 

My wife's 'go to' setup for hill/mountain walking in summer is some Montane leggings and Lowa walking boots. She is currently looking for some trail running style gaiters that she can use to keep trail grit, pine needles and the like from ending up in her boots, rather than the more traditional waterproof and longer gaiters. 

We've found loads so far, but they all seem to be designed to be worn with trail running shoes and none of them look like they would fit around a traditional hiking boot, so if anyone out there has any suggestions or recommendations then they would be gratefully received.

Thank you, we can certainly go and check those out when we are next in town. 

One of the reviews mentions them not working with boots with a heel, so they may not work, but it is a super start and I am most grateful to you.

Additional recommendations greatly appreciated so we can put a shortlist together.

A quick google for "ankle gaiters" should get you some ideas.

I've got a pair of Berghaus ankle gaiters that work fine with boots. I bought mine years ago though.

So might work OK. 

If you can, get ones with easily replaceable straps as these will wear out long before the gaiters do.  FWIW, I use furniture upholstery rubber webbing to replace my gaiter straps. A roll will repair many sets of gaiters. 

Thank you all very much, these recommendations are greatly appreciated and we can start to put a bit of a trip plan together to see if we can see them in person and ensure they work with the Lowa boots. 

I use a pair of Rab scree gaitors over my leather walking boots, really rate then in heather to keep the bits out of your boots.

From the trip into town today, the ones that are gtx/waterproof might be too hot for summer use, so these Rab scree ones look good, but they don't seem to be in production any more The Mountain Equipment Dynamo gaiters also look good, but don't seem to be in stock anywhere, even though 1 retailer claims to have 1 in stock, the order failed after a few hours as they couldn't find them in the warehouse, so any further recommendations would be gratefully appreciated. 

In order to avoid cutting the straps under the boots, on sharp rocks, thread them thru tubular climbing tape. You only need a couple of 3" - 4" pieces.

Yes I get really hot feet so didn't want waterproof, although they are better than nothing for reducing water ingress. Maybe take your boots into a running shop and see what they offer, as a lady you presumably have small feet so an XL designed for running shoes might well fit over your boots.

If buying again I would prefer a model that wraps on, mine you have to remove the boot and put on like a sock, which is fine if you're wearing them all day but a nuisance if you only want them for part of the walk.

I’ve used in both Winter hiking/climbing, works well with my B3 (designed for) and my B1 Scarpa Evo boots. They can get quite sweaty round the compression strap, but will keep everything out your boot. I have only been able to see them on European retailers and got mine from AT.

EDIT: downside with these is you have to remove the boot to take the gaiter off.
