Hi,

I thought you might be interested to know that my photo of Puffins taken on Lunga in the Treshnish Isles earlier this year has made it onto the 2025 Countryfile Calendar! It was selected from tens of thousands of entries. I'm completely shocked but very happy about it!

All the photos to be in the calendar can be seen in the attached link. You can also vote for your (ahem) favourite, the overall winner getting £1000 of camera equipment...

Hope you enjoy looking!

Great photo! Will vote tonight when I'm home and can get my BBC login details!

Slightly surprised that 10 out of the 12 photos appear to be taken by men! I'd naively expected a better gender balance.

Smashing picture.  I've always had a soft spot for the Atlantic Toucan.

Cheers, that's very kind of you! I guess the gender balance might be reflective of that of the 'sport'. I certainly see a greater number of men than women wandering around with big cameras....

Thanks!!! Yes, Puffins have a certain comical charm about them

Great photo and congratulations to you.

I’m really surprised that another of the successful entries made it through though. The rainbow one has the shadow of the photographer’s hand and camera (phone?, not that that matters) clearly visible. For that reason I would have discounted it from the competition.

Thanks a lot 🙂. One of my kids mentioned about the phone/hand shadow thing, they'd read about it on Twitter.

I like that you didn't clone out that photobombing fly

Thank you! TBH, I didn't notice it! I took the photo in July, and the closing date for entries was only a few weeks later. So I didn't do any editing beyond cropping and exposure. Maybe I just thought it was a bit of grot on my laptop screen....

Well done, and a really great photo. This one of mine was shortlisted for Martin Meres (Wetlands Trust reserve) photo competition.

Cool! What's the Kestrel perched on? Is it a telescope lens?

Yes, my telescope. I’ll do a separate post sometime about it, quite an experience.
