NON helmet compatible heavy duty waterproof

Hi all.

So I haven’t had a heavy duty waterproof for some time instead relying on soft shells and throwing on a lightweight waterproof for brief heavy rain but I thought I’d get a more heavy weight waterproof for well heavy and persistent rain.

But. After considerable searching I can’t identify one with what I believe are simple basic requirements.

1 waterproof to a good level so Goretex

2 pit zips. how any heavy waterproof jacket is sold without these is a mystery

3 waterproof outside breast pocket for map or phone or navigation device. Again how this is not standard amazes me. If it’s pissing down with rain or bitterly cold the last thing I want to do is open a jacket to access and check phone/map/device

4 a NON helmet compatible hood. I’m not a climber, mountaineer or skier. I don’t have a large head and regardless of what brand say, helmet hoods do NOT  fit well on heads without helmets. You can not adjust a helmet hood down snuggly on a non helmeted head.

So I can not find a single jacket which complies with what I want. Trust me I’ve spent hours looking. And yet it seems like a really low bar. The requirements seem basic. The non-helmet hood though is usually the problem. And I suspect there are 1000s of walkers and hikers walking around the U.K. with jackets with inappropriate hoods as the number of non helmet hood jackets being sold is so lacking.

So suggestions please!

thank you!

On the hood issue I'm in total agreement with you. My current solution is a baseball cap, just perch the oversized hood on the peak of the cap - it's not perfect, but at least let's me see out whilst minimising water ingress.

In reply to GMohr: oh! Yes that looks good. Though … only brown and blue … women get a red one. I’ll check this out! Thanks!

In reply to Jenny C: Cheers Jenny and yes a baseball cap does help! Baseball caps are good for sun and rain too!
