Hi

I'm absolutely loving the new Inov8 Trail Fly wide fit shoes. The foot shape (similar to Altra) is perfect for me and they are the only good fitting shoes I've ever found. Only problem is I've been told I need more arch support by my Podiatrist due to a few injury related issues I've been having and to top it off the bottom of any inserts needs to be flat so a heel lift and wedge can be added. Custom ones come in at close to £500 which is out of the question. She suggested trying some off the shelves ones but I'm struggling to find any that suit foot shaped footwear. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at superfeet green in wide fit but was unsure if they'd be wide enough.

You could also look at superfeet custom insoles which are custom made from your own biometrics.  It’s superfeet’s ME3D range, I got some for my ski boots last week for £120 including all the scans and measurements required. Not outrageous if you really need something more than off the shelf.

Thanks, it wasn't a service I knew about

I wear Superfeet green in my walking boots because I have low volume feet and the greens take up a fair bit of volume, as well as helping stop my feet sliding forward in the boots. If you’re happy with the fit of the Inov8s at the moment I think you’d find the greens would make too drastic a change in volume.

The important bit of the Superfeet is the heel cup - the rest is just filler. I use some of their carbon insoles to make my TX Guides fit better, trimming off the foam forefoot and just relying on the heel cup to stabilise my foot and stop it spreading forwards so much.
If your feet spill over the edge of the greens it might feel weird, but you could maybe put a bevel on the underside to reduce the lip.

It might be worth trying the greens by themselves, though - I suspect Superfeet might not recommend them for use with additional lifts/wedges since that would probably misalign their shape. And I think they still do a quibble-free returns period so you could see if they work just by themselves and return them if not

At one point a physio told me I needed arch support insert and some slight lift under my heel. I was able to buy not too expensive inserts then use the shoe's existing insoles as a stencil and scissors to cut the insoles to correct size for my shoe. In my case I removed the front of the insert completely so it was only heel and arch for me.

At no point did it cost me hundreds of pounds for custom orthotics, but my situation will be different to yours, but explore the options you may have, it might not be only the expensive stuff!

(As an aside, in my case I later saw a podiatrist who drew lines on my feet, ankles and lower legs with a biro and ruler and got me standing on a big wooden wedge in different positions and concluded I shouldn't have inserts or motion control trainers but needed to fix tight calves! 🤣 Amazing how 2 people can totally contradict each other. Turned out the podiatrist was was right)
