One of those short videos appeared today, showing what looked like a climber using an autobelay type device to lead a route on a climbing wall.

Anyone know anything about it?

Thanks, interesting concept. Perhaps using a bowline would be preferable, less chance of jammed knots.

I went to the Salewa wall in Bozen where they have the prototypes installed. But you needed an induction from the staff to be allowed to use them, which we didn’t have time for as we were just passing through on our way home from the Dolomites. So I didn’t get to try one out

OBLOC in Bern has one, it looks pretty cool, I didn't get a chance to climb on it at the time though

How long until something like this is available for outside?

Not that long methinks.

It appeared on my FB feed too and it was a pretty big box!

I wonder whether there'll be a version that sprints down the hill when you fall off the top bit of Gaia.

Seriously though, mechanically reeling the rope in could be made reliably faster - I suspect the tricky bit is detecting exactly when to do it - can't afford to be late.

Or, indeed, early!

(I still maintain, though, that 'sprinting down the hill' has greater comic appeal than 'reeling in'.)

Thanks everyone. I am left baffled by the dislikes for my bowline suggestion

The issues with using a fig 8 are immediately apparent when you see the set up and further evidenced if the full video is watched.

This place is very strange.
