Anyone else had a listen yet?
Thirty two years since their last good album, Wish; thirty five since their last great one, Disintegration - and they've finally done it again. This one's really good!
The Cure have long been my favourite band, and I'd almost given up hope of anything new from them worth listening to - but after hearing some of the new songs live a couple of years ago I've been looking forward to this one.
It's not quite their best, but I like every track on it and several are very strong; "And Nothing is Forever" stands out for me as my clear favourite, and I reckon it holds its own amongst the best of the Cure songs.
Aging and decay, loss and the looming of the end - it feels like the passage of time has been captured in the spirit of this one; we've all lived a lot in the meantime.
I hope they do tour again next autumn...
