Given that it’s more skinning than skiing most of the time , anyone tried accessing the carneddau on skis this week ?

normally I drive up above rowen to start , but am always wary of the road conditions.

Anyone been out this week?

I parked at the car park above Aber falls today. Skins on at approx 300m. Worthwhile skiing off Foel Fras and down from Drum back towards Aber. Top of Drum was icy and lots of sastrugi. Difficult heading down from there to the bwlch before heading up to Foel Fras. On the return only the top 20metres off Drum were icy before hitting good snow. I went as far as Foel Grach, decent turns off the top but probably not worth the skin over.

Road up to car park above Aber was completely clear today, no issues.

Interested to hear if anyone has been out elsewhere in Snowdonia.

We skied in Cwm lloer below Carnedd Dafydd today, walked up from the A5 past glan dena and skis on after a short walk. We managed to find some good snow, no issues with road conditions or parking. Well worth a trip up

Thanks. What height did you get to and what aspect did you ski in the Cwm? I assume you followed the river down once out of the Cwm.

Up to about 850m, skiing SW or S facing aspects to the east of Ffynnon Lloer, and yes followed the drainage down and still got some good turns lower down

Today I went from Marchlyn Reservoir parking. Skins on from the car. Up to Carnedd y Filiast and then Mynydd Perfedd. Had a fantastic ski down from here deep into Cwm Dudoyn on cold powder and then spring corn lower down. Put the skins back on and went up to Foel Goch then skied down through Cwm Cywion (The Mushroom Garden) with some nice techy gullys to descend, soft wind blown snow all the way down. Skins back on and up the Northeast Ridge of Y Garn to the top of Banana Gully, was getting dark at this point and looked a bit rocky so decided not to risk it. Skied from here instead to a point under point 798 near Bwlch y Cywion and then back down into Cwm Dudoyn on perfect corn. Skied out to Nant Peris and a lift back to my car.

I have found it hard to find reports of anyone else skiing anywhere so hopefully this is useful to some.
