Hello,

On Tuesday 4th February, the Royal Meteorological Society will be hosting a joint talk by the Met Office and the Scottish Avalanche Information Service at the Art Centre in Aberdeen. This talk will be free to attend in person or on Zoom (but you will have to provide your own biscuits if attending online!), we just ask that you register before hand. Details of the time, venue and how to register are on the poster. You can also register here

The talk will look at the link between the weather and the avalanche hazard. We will illustrate this by talking through a case study from last winter that involved a couple of human triggered avalanches, exploring how the developing weather story influenced the evolution of the snow pack and allowed the conditions that led to these avalanches to develop.

We hope that you can make it.

Is there a recording available? I know a few people that tried to dial in but the viewer capacity had been reached.

In reply to Luke Brisco:

Hi Luke. Sorry to hear that folk weren't able to dial in. I have passed this on to the Royal Meteorological Society.

There will be a recording available, although it might take a day or so before it is uploaded. I will post back on here when it is available.

Thanks Mike, enjoyed the talk but some bits were hard to follow as we couldn't see what areas were being pointed to on the slides when they were being discussed, not sure how easy this would be to sort on any future talks?

In reply to Luke Brisco:

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the laser pointer didn't show up so well on Zoom. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Apparently there were a 'huge number of last minute registrations' and Zooms capacity limit was reached, which they have never had before. They will look to get the recording uploaded asap.

Hello, a recording of the talk is now available on YouTube for anyone who wasn't able to watch it, or want's to watch it again. Please see the message below from the Royal Meteorological Society:

We had a huge number of delegates register to attend, which meant that we managed to exceed the zoom meeting capacity. Please accept our apologies if you were unable to access the meeting last night. Please find below the link to the recording. There were some technical difficulties with the sound on the videos which were played in the room and we have attached the link to the video so you can watch this back.

Ta! Please, if you could kindly put up the audio or video on some other platforms that do not require a sign‑in to access your content. Pretty sure plenty of people would love to watch or listen to it, who don't have or won't ever have Instagram, for various reasons from privacy to its parent company encouraging genocide and the far right.

I know budgets are very short and hosting multimedia content cab indeed cost a lot, just that using a Fascist‑leaning company like Meta not only makes said media unavailable without registration there, it also makes you and your audience hostages to said Fascists.

In reply to Frank R.:

Hi Frank,

It's not my video, so I can't host it on another platform, only share the link.

You can still watch it without registering, just click the cross to get rid of the registration pop up. Works for me and I don't have Instagram.
