‘Human’ by the Killers and Rag’n Bone Man.

Both great, popular songs but very different.

Cry Baby Cry - The Beatles

Cry Baby Cry - Throwing Muses (just to confuse matters, their own song was an early one circa 1986 but they did cover The Beatles' one as a B side on the Not Too Soon 12" in 1991)

In reply to Lankyman:

The second one is great, but is there a more turgid tune than the first?

In the same vein (the first a pillar of the establishment, the second a spit in its face, the first again turgid, but the second questionable):

Angels - Robbie Williams

Angels - Crass

God Save the Queen is more turgid than God Save the Queen. Right  . . .

OP Moacs 09 Feb 2025
In reply to Moacs:

Also "Bad Blood" - Bastille and Taylor Swift

In reply to Moacs:

Here's a well-known one: "You'll Never Walk Alone" by Rodgers and Hammerstein from the 1945 musical Carousel, which was popularised later by Gerry and the Pacemakers and has since become the anthem of the Liverpool Football Club.

In reply to John Stainforth:

I suppose that was not a great example, being exactly the same song.

An obvious example of different songs with the same name would be Money by the Beatles (and probably many other artists) and Money by Pink Floyd.

Toast!

1. by Blawan

and

2. by Mella Dee

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twaUK__DFso&ab_channel=MellaDee

Both current (and in my opinion great) UK electronic music artists. Interestingly they both come from South Yorkshire as well. Maybe there is something about toast which captures the zeitgeist of Yorkshire...!

It's the same song; the Queen misunderstood the assignment.

It is right and proper that the Pet Shop Boys' version was the Christmas number one in the UK in 1987, over Fairytale of New York which has always been really overrated.
