Hello all,

I own a pair of Grivel 2f crampons with new matic bindings - I think?(heel step in clip and front yellow plastic toe cradle).

I've not used them for a number of years and they have been sitting in my dark dry garage.  There are some scratches in the plastic toe cradle, achieved throughout 30-40 days worth of Scottish/Lakes/Welsh winter climbing and alpine mountaineering.  I was thinking about replacing the binding at the front and wondered if Grivel transformer bails

are likely to fit on this era of crampon as I can see the plastic cradle design has changed on the most recent crampons.  I bought my 2f's brand new in Aviemore in around 1997.  They are symmetric in length unlike the original 2f's which I think only had a full step binding with toe bale at the front.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi,

Can’t help with your query, but have you tried contacting them…

I got some advice Leki about replacing a pole section, and generally other customer help areas have been helpful (non-climbing).

Good luck!

Thank you - have done already at the same time but wanted to see what people's experience was on here as well.

If it’s only 30-40 days of use and they are just scratched and no cracks I wouldn’t worry too much.

If they are playing on your mind, just buy new crampons. 2Fs pastry cutting design was an absolute pain for balling up, and that is probably a far greater danger than the current bindings. Modern crampons are a joy in comparison when you’re on sticky snow.

In reply to BenTiffin:

I know the 2Fs you're talking about, those transformer bails won't fit those crampons.
