Really fancy an Iceland hut to hut, maybe via a runny volcano or other peak.  We'll probably do the tourist hot spots too, but really would spend most the time walking.

Can you book huts in advance, are they costly, transport around the island?

Thoughts and ideas muchly appreciated.

Paddy Dillon's Cicerone guide is probably a good place to start.

Thanks. We often get the guides from them. I'll chuck it out.

Been once a few years ago travelling around by bus and plane, backpacking/camping, etc. You can book pretty much everything in advance (and would do well to do so on popular routes, e.g. Laugevegur Trek) and transport/infrastructure is high standard and reliable. Downsides are that everything you’ll need (transport/food/accommodation) is very expensive, and honey pot places/itineraries can be horribly busy. Amazing place though.

There's some great walking around Kerlingarfjoll including a number of huts. I haven't used the huts, we camped at Kerlingarfjoll and just did a couple of day walks, but IIFR there are options for hut-to-hut walking in the area.

We did the Laugavegur trail and it was pretty amazing.

the huts get booked up a long way in advance so we ended up camping every other night. Luckily the one night a horrendous storm hit we were tucked up in the hut. All the campers looked pretty miserable the next day. Obviously if it had got dangerous they would’ve been brought inside though.

Take some footwear specifically for river crossings. The ‘braided’ rivers can mean you cross 10+ streams/ rivulets/etc in a short distance.
