Does anyone use ME Karakoram trousers for skiing? Any comments welcome (thinking of getting a pair). Thanks

If you already have a pair then yes, using mountain gear for skiing works to a degree. You'll need some insulation depending on where you ski, plus the fit at the bottom won't be great over ski boots. Most ski trousers flare a little at the bottom.

If you do both often enough then aim for the right gear for each, even if that means slightly worn stuff. Being honest a lot uk ski wear people sell online has probably seen 7 x 1/2 days use at most.

I do because I have a pair and don't ski that much. I wear powerstretch under them. They work pretty well but I suspect purpose made trousers would be better.

Yes, but I'm a crap skier. Not sure I can entirely blame my trousers for that. I suspect that they are not the limiting factor.

Thanks for these comments. I’ll look for an irresistible second-hand deal

Others have already mentioned insulation and flared bottoms to fit over boots.

Another difference worth mentioning is that ski-specific trousers tend to be tailored with more of a bend at the knee. This can make them look odd when you are not skiing, but it does make them much more comfortable when you are - they don't ride up or pull on your knees so much. Some mountaineering trousers also have this feature, but usually not to the same extent.

If you are predominantly downhill skiing off lifts and are prioritising warmth, TKMaxx can be a good source of cheap clothes.

Don't see why not - my first snowboarding trousers was a pair of Polartech 2 joggers under a cheap pair of waterproof trousers.

Issues you might have are fitting them over ski boots (as already noted) and getting snow up inside them (ski trousers usually have an elasticated snow skirt under the hem).

I've got a couple of ski jackets from TKMaxx in the past, but they've had nothing this season (at least, not in any of the 3 local to me).

Kitted the family out this year at Mountain Warehouse.

Whilst the Karakorums are waterproof, the OP might also consider the latest incarnation of Decathlon's Simond Mountaineering trousers @ £65...

Will need some insulation underneath; PowerStretch tights or similar.

I got all our family kit from decathlon and vinted.

Vinted: Under £100 for 4 ski jackets. 1 X decathlon, 2 X animal, 1 X protest. Sallopettes for £20 for one child

Decathlon for other sallopettes so they could be tried on. Not great, as no ventilation on them, but ok for a few days.

If you are happy with your sizing, then vinted had some real bargains.

Yes I used to . Had a pair for ages as my go to do everything pant .as above powerstrech tights underneath or thin thermals . More touring than piste but used for both . Ideal if you want something to ski in but to do other jobs as well
