Just wondering if anyone knows if a cheap bunkhouse or hostel near morvich, Glen shiel area? We're staying a night in the Glen affric yha, and just need something for the following night back at the road. Will have car. A campsite with pods or whatever would do too.

Thanks

Ged

It's not the best part of the world for cheap accommodation. Assume you've tried Ratagan?

The national trust have a bunkhouse but I'm not sure what the deal is with individuals booking it.

Most hostels and bunkhouses shut for the winter now. There's very little open across Scotland.

Grey Corrie Lodge in Roy Bridge might be the closest.

Ratagan has been closed all winter for as long as I can remember.

In that case Ratagan will be open but I guess you'll have looked already if you've come from Allt Beithe (it fills up pretty quickly)

The bunkhouse is setup for group bookings- minimum 2 night stay, and minimum charge of £216 per wing, per night.

There is a pod camping place in Morvich (not sure if it really qualifies as cheap, and I've never stayed there) https://strathcroepods.co.uk/

Other options would be Ratagan, the camping and caravan club site or one of the hostels in Kyleakin (25 min drive).

120 quid a night, minimum 2 night stay, yikes! Thanks though.

Invergarry bunkhouse looks like the only option without spending big money.

Thanks everyone.

Seems like Covid has done for the cheap hostel/ bunkhouse market. That and the move to Airbnb'ing everything for bigger bucks. There used to be the Wee Bunkhouse in Dornie which was brilliant, the Camas Luine bunkhouse round the back from Dornie and the Kintail Lodge also used to have a bunkhouse, which admittedly was a bit shit. Now, it's Invergarry or Kyle of Lochalsh and i haven't been to either of those for ages...

Good luck,

Davie

The wee campsite off the main road at Ardelve is lovely, well run by a nice woman is worth considering. It’s a short walk back over the bridge to the pubs in Dornie.

In reply to GDes:

Plenty of cheap bunkhouse style accommodation in Kyleakin. It's just a 25 min drive from Morvich.
