Hi

I have across this website on Facebook claiming to be Mammut-UK selling products including gear and great discounts

I think it is a scammer website and I have reported to Mammut by several means.

https://mammut-uk.com/search?q=Pads

Is this real or a scammer?

The domain only appears to have been registered this month, which is a red flag. Mammut's genuine site is https://www.mammut.com/uk/en

The TLS certificate and domain were registered on 24 Feb. Whilst that’s not an indication of being dodgy, it might be a yellow flag. Domain was registered in Hong Kong. Make of that what you will.

The contact us page doesnt have as many options as the .com site does. The contact is ounwear.com, who are also registered in .hk, about 8 months ago, but have a Malaysian phone number. Seems to be a fashion site.

Try the chat on the .com site or the UK phone number. There are several warning on the about scam mammut sites, if you search the domain and scam.

In reply to L.A.:

> As the given Contact Us address is for ounwear.com and Trustpilot only has one review of them and thats a very negative one Id say SCAM

> If its too good a price to be true then its probably not true

Too right.

I looked at that email too.

It has been reported to Mammut.

Well done!

You wouldn't happen to be a Mammut athlete.

Scam. Similar scam site for Endura (mtb clothing) also popping up on Facebook, which seems to be tolerating all this sort of thing.

Would reporting it to Facebook be likely to achieve anything?

In reply to Mountain Spirit:

I brought from a one of these sites a few years ago, it was a Patagonia copy and looked very convincing with similar discounts and layout.

It turned out to be scam and I received a pair of (fake) Gucci socks 3 months later instead of the jacket I ordered.

This looks similar so I would avoid.

In reply to Martin W:

I doubt it, I've reported several scams to them before, only to get the reply "We've taken no further action".

In reply to Martin W:

I doubt it would achieve anything. FB don't even remove reported sex scammers.

 Hi.

It has been reported and they are dealing with the website.

They don't care.  The scammers pay them for sponsored posts / advertising.  Very immoral stance but that's hardly a surprise.  Same deal with Google adwords showing scam adverts - so long as they get paid they DGAF.

In reply to Mountain Spirit:

The website is back and promoted by a dodgy FB page called The Outdoor Club. 😡

I have a suspicion of who is behind both of them.

I have contacted Mammut again via IG.

I also emailed Lattice to pass a message onto Maddy Cope who is sponsored by Mammut.

There's lots of these around - I always look for a registered company address and a phone number around the Contact Us bit at the bottom. I suspect there are UK/EU regulations that the registered company address must be given - if not in my book its never bona fide.

I'm sure that you've done all you can by reporting to Mammut and flagging it on UKC.

I don't think it's anything to do with Mammut's athletes so I wouldn't bother trying to contact them.

I've seen a few different ones around and I informed a friend about the fake MTB clothing one.

Is it worth reporting it to the National Cyber Security Centre?

Be radical, to be sure they are genuine lcheck the address of the potential supplier by visiting them, they are called shops and we have a diminishing number of specialist shops where you can actually handle and try on your potential purchases. Even better they employ humans who you can talk to and ask about the products. I can recommend excellent specialists in Keswick, Ambleside, Llanberis, Hathersage and various walls around the UK. Use them or lose them.

Glad to hear you are using shops, keep it up, it is the big ticket purchases that keep them going.

No.

But this might be more appropriate:

I'm buying a new harness from V12 next. I prefer indy shops to big chains like Cotswold Outdoors and Snow & Rock.

I emailed Mountain Training to support  independent outdoor shops with their discount scheme.

From what I've seen on the website, it is more fit people who have been a victim of Fraud.

Well, if you want to report to NCSC, then here's the advice:

https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams/report-scam-website

Frankly, I'd say they've got other priorities in the world at the moment...

I found that link already but thanks.

> Frankly, I'd say they've got other priorities in the world at the moment...

There is a series in the TV about scams and last weeks one was about (internet) shopping scams so I got the idea to report it.

Good call, the small guys have much better stocking and choice compared to most of the chains who seem to offer a token amount of gear almost as an afterthought.

I have reported it.

My previous reply had a mistake: in the TV should have been on the TV.

My simple rule is... If it's in Facebook or Twitter it's  a scam site, until proven otherwise.

If not, it is most likely an overpriced drop shipper.

In reply to Dave B:

Well it was only promoted on Facebook and no where else.

Thanks. They do and they also have good deals along with having a lot of knowledge about gear etc.

I ordered my climbing shoes from V12 in Llanberis as they gave me discount off the web price.

My nearest Indy is Rock On Mile End Climbing Wall.
