Hi,

Looking for opinions/thoughts on lanyards for cleaning sport routes. Been using a Petzl Connect which is OK but difficult to release under load so reverted to quickdraws and slings.

Anyone used a CT I-Tuner?

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Steve

Sorry - no first hand experience but why do you think that the CT one might be better than the Petzl?

I have a Petzl dual connect which in retrospect I didn't need - the single one would have been fine. The Dual was actually excellent for the trip I bought it for - alpine multi pitch with bolted belays and abseil descents, but annoyingly bulky for use here in the Peak for most things. I've also got the non adjustable cheap one from Simond (Decathlon). Lighter and cheaper but I find a touch to long and obviously non adjustable!

Have you seen the new Beal one? That looks interesting.

Have you considered making a Purcell prussik, adjustable and releases under load.

Rock empire pip is releasable, although it’s not a feature that I find useful in normal circumstances.

I did a video on it a while ago: https://youtu.be/5jkAnPdT1Ns?si=PI4uYegOxbyS-ydh

If it's not a safety-critical attachment point (i.e. you're still on a rope belayed/self-belayed) and you're just using it to hold yourself in place on steep ground, I would probably just use a fifi hook. Not adjustable (so may not be suitable for your purposes) but easy to release.

Bet definitely an aid point and NOT to be considered an attachment point.

As Toby said the new Beal expresso fit looks interesting, like the connect adjust but with an additional small dyneema loop for abseiling.

Apparently Petzl have also redesigned the connect adjust with a dyneema girth hitch point and a redesigned metal piece to make it easier to release. I think it was supposed to release in 2024 but delayed for some unknown reason, someone else said spring 2025 but it's not out yet...

Yes I had heard it's meant to be lighter and more compact too which would be nice.

I’m using a Kong Breve/ Slyde (they seem the same). Not really quite as nice as Connect Adjust…but for under a tenner, you might be less disappointed. And it’s pretty light.

What do you think of folk simply clovehitching themselves to one of the draws at the top? Seems to be a thing, cant get any lighter. However, It raises my hackles, for no reason I can explain
