Mick Fowler & Victor Saunders - The Pioneering Pensioners
40 years after they first travelled together to Pakistan, mountaineers Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders returned to the country in 2024. Over 7 days, including one particularly memorable night spent hanging from the mountain in a storm, they made the first ascent of Yawash Sar (6248m), a stunning, pyramidal mountain that is sometimes referred to as "the Matterhorn of the Khunjerab".
On March 27, the duo will take to the stage at the Royal Geographical Society, London to recount their latest climb (achieved at the ages of 68 and 74), discuss their enduring partnership and share a few anecdotes from their many shared adventures.
The talk, given in aid of the Mount Everest Foundation, which funds exploratory mountaineering and scientific expeditions in mountain regions, is supported by Berghaus.
In reply to Adam_42: It would be good if the MEF/Berghaus recognised that there's more to the UK than just the RGS in London and put these talks on in the North, Wales and Scotland. After all its not like the pensioners have anything else to do (unless it affects their tax status ?)
Fowler and Saunders just keep proving that age is no barrier to adventure. That night in the storm must have been something else, would love to hear their stories firsthand. Anyone here planning to attend the talk?
